GANTRY CRANES are ideal for outdoor applications where lifting facilities are provided without the cost of a building or any supporting steelworks . They are also suited to indoor applications where existing building structures are not suitable to take overhead cranes.
These can be constructed with a cantilever to allow handling outside the rail centres. Typical applications for this type of crane include steel stock yards, loading areas, concrete industry and ship building.

A gantry crane is a crane built atop a gantry, which is a structure used to straddle an object or workspace. They can range from enormous full gantry cranes, capable of lifting some of the heaviest loads in the world, to small shop cranes, used for tasks such as lifting automobile engines out of vehicles. They are also called portal cranes, ‘Portal’ being the empty space straddled by the gantry.
Full gantry cranes (where the load remains beneath the gantry structure, supported from a beam) are well suited to lifting massive objects such as vehicles’ engines, as the entire structure can resist the torque created by the load, and counterweights are usually not needed. They use a complex system of cables and attachments to support the massive loads undertaken by whole of gantry cranes.
Portable gantry cranes are used to lift and transport smaller items, usually less than 10 tonnes. They are widely used in the HVAC, machinery moving and high value industries. Some portable gantry cranes are equipped with an enclosed track, while others use an I-beam, or other extruded shapes, for the running surface.
The structure of a gantry crane consists of its main girder or beam and its legs. The size, length, and number of beams varies depending on whether the gantry crane is light or heavy duty and the weight of the load. Considering the legs, one side is rigid while the other is flexible to reduce deadweight.
TrolleyThe trolley moves the hoist horizontally along the girder of the crane and may be attached to the top or the underside. The three types of trolleys are low, normal headroom, and double girder.
HoistThe hoist on a gantry crane is a form of winch mounted on the trolley to lift and lower the load along a vertical plane, and it moves back and forth with the movement of the trolley.
PowerA festoon is the form of wiring that delivers power to the trolley and hoist. The provided power comes from the busbar, or receiving station, to be distributed to the bridge panel to power the crane. Cables send the power from the panel to the hoist and bridge drives to run the hoist, trolley, and bridge.
ControlsThe controls of a gantry crane provide the operator direct access and control of the cranes’ movements and the hoist. There are many varieties of crane control methods, ranging from wired or remote control for a small sized gantry crane to cabins and booths where the operator rides on the crane or sits in a location to observe crane movement.
Design Fabrications are involved in manufacturing and supplying high quality range of Gantry Cranes which are used for moving loads in different directions such as up, down, right and left conveniently. These machines are widely recognised for qualities like high performance and optimum quality and stability. The machines are manufactured using premium quality basic raw materials which is procured from trustworthy vendors of the industry. Further, these Gantry Cranes are available in various standard and tailored specifications which are offered at the most reasonable prices.
Features:GANTRY CRANES are most suited for outdoor applications where lifting facilities are provided without the cost of a building or any supporting steelworks. They are also required for indoor applications where existing building structures are not suitable to take overhead cranes.
These can be constructed with a cantilever to allow handling outside the rail centres. Wide and specialised applications for this type of crane include steel stock yards, loading areas, concrete industry and ship building.
Gantry cranes are widely used in industrial manufacturing to lift and move materials, supplies, and products. All varieties of gantry cranes are a necessary part of the auto, steel, and aircraft industries due to the kind of their production processes.
Repair ShopsIn small engine repair shops, the engines to be repaired have to be lifted and positioned so that the technician can view all parts of the engine.
ShipyardsThe area where large heavy-duty cranes are used the most is shipyards; they are used to move extremely heavy loads and ship parts. The demands of shipyard applications require to make use of different kinds of heavy-duty gantry cranes for ship building, repair, unloading, and material movement.
ConstructionAnother industry that relies on gantry cranes for their mobility and load capacity is construction. In the construction industry, crews move in to build a structure, then rapidly move out when the job is done. This type of instant in and out requires tools that can be used to fulfil the needs of the application but are capable of being torn down and removed.
